Kids: Designing Interactive Animation

Michael Frei and Mario von Rickenbach will talk about their collaborations as a filmmaker-
gamemaker duo creating interactive animations. Why would you want to make an animation
interactive? They will give insights into their working methods by showing the process behind
projects like Plug & Play or KIDS that are being published by Double Fine.

Michael Frei studied Animation at the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU) and cofounded the production company Playables in 2015. He is especially known for his two award winning short animated films ’Not About Us’ (2012), which screened at the festivals in Annecy, Baden, Tallinn and Leipzig, among others, and ‘Plug & Play’ (2013), which became a big festival hit and was awarded at numerous international film festivals.

Mario von Rickenbach is a designer and creative technologist based in an obscure country called Switzerland. He is a generalist with experiences in game design, programming, graphic design and animation, interested in working at the intersection of design, art and technology. His award-winning works include the games Plug & Play, Mirage, Krautscape, Drei and Rakete.
